Jean-Claude Van Damme Gets Meta For Comedy Pilot, 'Jean-Claude Van Johnson'
There was a brief stretch when the "Mussels from Brussels" Jean-Claude Van Damme experienced a career renaissance, and it was after he parodied the Hell out of himself in JCVD. It was a fantastic turn, and Van Damme hasn't really done anything that good since. But the Bloodsport star may have found his next great thing, and once again he'll be playing a stylized version of himself.
According to Slashfilm, Van Damme is set to star in an Amazon pilot awesomely-titled Jean-Claude Van Johnson, and it's penned by The Expendables writer, David Callaham, with Peter Atencio (Key & Peele) directing. The show would basically posit that Van Damme's action roles were a cover for his real work as an undercover agent on secret missions. Dude. Here's the synopsis:
Jean-Claude Van Damme comes out of retirement to put on once again the mantle of his alter-ego, undercover private contractor Jean-Claude Johnson. “Johnson’s” cover as the lead role in a re-imagined action film version of “Huckleberry Finn” lands him right back in the midst of the danger he secretly always craves–but most importantly, back in the orbit of Vanessa, his fellow operative and the woman he loves.
So this sounds pretty Van Damme amazing, and finally a reason for me to use that Amazon Prime account for more than just free shipping.
