Will Smith, Joel Edgerton, And David Ayer Team For Fantasy Cop Thriller, 'Bright'

Before their first collaboration in DC's Suicide Squad this summer, Will Smith and director David Ayer have already enlisted on another mission. The two will team with Joel Edgerton for Bright, a fantasy thriller from Chronicle, Victor Frankenstein, and American Ultra writer, Max Landis.

Details on the film are few, but based on some of Landis' tweets we know it's a contemporary fantasy cop thriller centering an an orc cop.  That seems like a pretty unique concept....until you remember the disastrous RIPD from just a couple of years ago. That film had nothing to do with Landis, but the writer's output since Chronicle has been just as terrible, which should be cause enough for concern.

A bidding war is going on for the Landis' spec script now, although TheWrap seems to think it will end up at Warner Bros., which would make sense for the studio.  Edgerton, who has already been seen this year in Jane got a Gun, will be part of Jeff Nichols' sci- film, Midnight Special, and the interracial marriage drama, Loving. Smith and Ayer have Suicide Squad this August, with the latter also starring in Collateral Beauty during the holiday season.
