Alicia Vikander Is Lara Croft In The 'Tomb Raider' Reboot

As Daisy Ridley has lined up more and more projects to fill her time between Star Wars movies, it was becoming clear she'd have no room for the Tomb Raider reboot she was eyed for. And as it turns out, someone else who is usually just as busy has taken the role of Lara Croft, and it's Oscar-winner Alicia Vikander.

THR reports Vikander, who just won Best Supporting Actress for her performance in The Danish Girl, will play the iconic video game heroine in Roar Uthaug's reboot. The actress had more than half a dozen movies in 2015 and has a packed year ahead with Jason Bourne, The Light Between Oceans, and Tulip Fever. While she's appeared in her share of action movies, including last year's The Man from UNCLE, this will be her first time taking the lead and it will be interesting to see how she does filling Angelina Jolie's shoes.

No word on when filming will begin but it will likely be immediately after Vikander finishes shooting on Wim Wenders' Submergence.
