Daisy Ridley, J.J. Abrams, And Marielle Heller Team For Fantasy Romance, 'Kolma'
Daisy Ridley and J.J. Abrams may have gone to a galaxy far far away together with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but they certainly aren't going too far away from one another. Ridley is set to star in the fantasy romance Kolma, produced by Abrams' Bad Robot Productions. Most exciting is that it will be directed by Marielle Heller, whose The Diary of a Teenage Girl was a breakout hit at Sundance last year.
2003 Israeli TV movie All I’ve Got (Kol Ma She’Yesh Li) serves as the source material for this one, about a young woman who loses the love of her life in a tragic accident. Decades later she reaches the afterlife and is given two choices: she can either return to her first love with no memory of everything that happened afterwards, or she can continue on as is with her current husband. Does she choose what had been the perfect love with the potential it could all turn sour? Or stick with what has been comfortable?
The material was strong enough to attract Ron Howard a couple of years ago, but his project fell through. There's a lot of potential behind this latest attempt with Ridley, Abrams, and Heller teaming up. Heller had been attached to a film on Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg with Natalie Portman, but nothing has been heard about that one for a while. Besides Star Wars: Episode VIII, Ridley is eyeing the Lara Croft role in a Tomb Raider reboot. [TheWrap]
