'Daredevil' Showrunners Board Marvel's 'The Defenders'
Can Marvel replicate their big screen cinematic universe in the world of TV? They're certainly trying with Netflix's Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist, which will all eventually combine for the crossover event, The Defenders. And while that's still a little ways off since Luke Cage and Iron Fist have yet to air, the preparations are now in place with a pair of familiar showrunners coming aboard.
Marvel Entertainment has announced that Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez, who ran the second season of Daredevil, will take charge of The Defenders. They'll be joined by exec-producer Drew Goddard, who directed The Cabin in the Woods and earned an Oscar nomination for writing Ridley Scott's The Martian.
Here's what Petrie and Ramirez had to say about the news....
“This is the big one. Four amazing casts, four amazing series, now all in one amazing story. We are thrilled at the opportunity to deliver the show that both we and the fans have been waiting for.”
The question is if there will be more heroes joining the street-level team of superheroes, like maybe The Punisher? Production on The Defenders is to begin by year's end.
