Joaquin Phoenix May Join John C. Reilly In 'The Sisters Brothers'
While we await word if Joaquin Phoenix plans to play Jesus in Mary Magdalene opposite Rooney Mara, the unpredictable actor is already lining up something equally promising. According to Variety, he's entered talks to star in Jacques Audiard's The Sisters Brothers, joining the previously cast John C. Reilly.
Phoenix and Reilly would play brothers Eli and Charlie Sisters, henchmen who begin to question their lives as they hunt down a prospector who stole from their boss. The film is set against the backdrop of the 1850s California Gold Rush, and is based on the novel by Patrick DeWitt.
It's likely that Phoenix will have to choose between this film and Mary Magdalene since both plan to shoot this summer. He also has the Western drama Far Bright Star which would see him headlining opposite Casey Affleck.
