Mark Rylance Rejoins Steven Spielberg For 'Ready Player One'
The Steven Spielberg/Mark Rylance bromance is a real thing, people. After working together on Bridge of Spies, earning the actor an Oscar win for his performance, they have reteamed for The BFG and have already agreed to work together on The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara, And yet it still isn't enough for these two, as Rylance has now joined the cast of Spielberg's Ready Player One.
Rylance joins a cast that already includes Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cook, Ben Mendelsohn, and Simon Pegg, with the Oscar-winner playing reclusive, Howard Hughes-esque billionaire James Halliday. Halliday is the creator of the virtual reality OASIS, the refuge for millions of people from a world devastated by climate change, overpopulation, and dwindling resources. Halliday's fascination with the pop culture of his youth led him to create an elaborate treasure hunt within the OASIS, with the promise of riches and power to the winner. Sheridan plays Wade Watts, aka Parzival, who takes on other ruthless competitors to win Halliday's prize.
So what, is there no room for Tom Hanks anywhere in this film? He's gotta be feeling left out. Ready Player One opens March 30th 2018.
