R-Rated 'Batman: The Killing Joke' Debuts The First Official Trailer

As Deadpool proved, there's a big market out there for R-rated superhero movies, perhaps out of fatigue from Marvel's all-ages approach. But it has to be for the right characters, the right storylines. And if there's one that definitely calls for it Batman: The Killing Joke would be it, which is why fans were so excited when the MPAA hit the upcoming animated adaptation with an R rating. Consider it a badge of honor.

After a fan made trailer hit a few weeks ago and fooled everybody, the official version has been released by Warner Bros. Animation. Based on the the classic story by Alan Moore and Brian Bolland, the story details the tragic origin of Batman's greatest foe, the Joker, and his battles against the Dark Knight and Commissioner Gordon. This is the story that leads to Gordon's daughter becoming paralyzed and abandoning her guise as Batgirl to become Oracle.

Voiced by Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill, Tara Strong, and Ray Wise, Batman: The Killing Joke will hit DVD/Blu-Ray later this year but is expected to premiere at Comic-Con in July.
