Aaron Eckhart is a tremendous actor too often stuck as a supporting player or as part of ensembles. And, unfortunately, his leading roles tend to fall in two categories lately: either they're movies nobody will see like My All American, or they're movies nobody should see like I, Frankenstein. Eckhart's latest film, the possession thriller Incarnate, kind of looks like the latter.
There's some decent talent surrounding Eckhart on this one, though, starting with San Andreas director, Brad Peyton. He's joined by Oscar nominee Catalina Sandino Moreno (Maria Full of Grace), Carice Van Houten (Game of Thrones), David Mazouz (Gotham), and WWE superstar Mark Henry because...oh yeah, this is a WWE Studios production. Might we see a World's Strongest Slam? Probably not.
Anyway, Eckhart stars as a man gifted (or cursed) with the ability to enter the minds of possessed people and exorcise their demons, until he runs into one with ties to his past. Here's the synopsis:
Confined to a wheelchair after a horrific accident, Dr. Seth Ember (Aaron Eckhart) is an “Incarnate” — gifted with the rare ability to delve into the minds of possessed people in order to exorcise their demons from the inside out. When the Vatican enlists him to exorcise a particularly troubled young boy, Ember is shocked to discover inside him the same evil spirit responsible for the death of his wife and child years before. Now, with the young boy’s life in his hands and his own personal redemption at stake, Ember desperately searches for a way to destroy the demon before it kills him and unleashes its terror upon the world…
So another exorcism movie for ya. Hollywood buys 'em by the gross. Incarnate September 30th.
