'Anna Dressed In Blood' YA Adaptation On The Way From 'Twilight' Author

The next time you curse the continued presence of YA movies in your local multiplex, remember to save a few words for Stephenie Meyer. The Twilight author helped launch the overabundance of franchises about supernatural love affairs and mysteriously gifted teens, and while the genre seems to be losing some steam lately, Meyer isn't letting go so easily.

Variety reports that Meyer will produce an adaptation of Kendare Blake's Anna Dressed in Blood, the first of her two-book supernatural series.  This one's come together fast with most of the principle cast and crew already on board. Starring will be Cameron Monaghan, best known for his roles on Shameless and Gotham, and Maddie Hasson from the Freeform series, Twisted. Directing will be Trish Sie (Step Up: All In) from a script by Allison Wood.

The story centers on Cas Lowood, who has inherited the job of killing the dead with the aid of his father's mysterious dagger, his mother, and their spirit-sniffing cat. When he encounters the deadly ghost known as "Anna dressed in blood", a spirit that has killed all who entered the dwelling she used to call home, his life is spared by her. They come to realize  they may have just found the only other person who can help unravel their mysterious pasts and survive the present.

Presumably this will get moving quickly now that the cast has been found, although let's hope it turns out better than Meyer's previous YA adapatation, The Host.
