Here's Why Olivia Munn Turned Down 'Deadpool' In Favor Of 'X-Men: Apocalypse'

When Olivia Munn made the jump from Attack of the Show eye candy to real acting, there wasn't a lot of expectations for her.  Probably the best she could hope for was exactly what she did in Iron Man 2, which was basically nothing but look pretty. But boy, were we wrong. Munn has proven herself more than capable, with her performance on HBO's The Newsroom arguably the show's best. And she expects more from herself, as well, which is why she turned down a key role in Deadpool in favor of X-Men: Apocalypse.

Speaking with American Way, Munn revealed that she was offered the role of Vanessa in the hit Deadpool film, but turned it down because, as well as Morena Baccarin played it, there wasn't much to it beyond being the girlfriend. Instead she chose playing telepathic ninja badass Psyclocke in X-Men: Apocalypse because she gets to actually do stuff...

“I said, ‘Is there a fight scene? I thought Psylocke was always one of the most lethal characters, and I said, ‘Yes, as long as you’re not using her to be the eye candy. She has really powerful abilities.’ And they said, ‘Yes, that’s an important part.’ ”

She's not wrong. Psylocke aka Betsy Braddock is one of the team's most powerful members but also one of their sexiest.  Let's just say her costume doesn't leave much to the imagination, and luckily Munn is okay with that if it means she gets to punch someone in the mouth.

X-Men: Apocalypse opens May 27th.
