Noomi Rapace May Join Will Smith In 'Bright', Also Boards Sci-Fi Thriller 'Boy'
She may not be returning for the Prometheus sequel, Alien: Covenant, but Noomi Rapace is plenty busy enough. The Swedish actress is set to join two films, including one of the hottest projects going in the works right now, Bright, alongside Will Smith and Joel Edgerton.
Variety reports Rapace is in talks for the David Ayer-directed film which is kind of like a supernatural buddy cop movie, described as being similar to Ayer's gritty End of Watch. There's just one big difference, and it's that orcs and fairies exist in this world alongside humans. Other details are being kept under wraps which includes the roles for Rapace, Smith, and Edgerton.
Bright is shaping up to be huge, as well, with Netflix dropping a mighty $90M to scoop up the rights. Obviously they see huge franchise potential in it, but they may want to be cautious in their expectations. Max Landis wrote the screenplay and while he scored a hit with Chronicle, his last few films (American Ultra, Victor Frankenstein, Mr. Right) have been all kinds of terrible. Rapace will also headline sci-fi flick, Boy, featuring a Black List script by Mattson Tomlin. Directed by Danish helmer Jonas Arnby, the film centers on a teenage boy with superhuman abilities whose powers are discovered by his conservative neighbors. Feared for being different and blamed for a tragic event, he and his mother must flee from the authorities looking to destroy him, eventually finding refuge with an underground rebel group.
Next up for Rapace is Tommy Wirkola's What Happened to Monday?, due out later this year. She's also attached to star in an Amy Winehouse biopic. [Variety]
