Penelope Cruz Plans A 'Layover'

Has Penelope Cruz finally had enough of the big Hollywood projects, like Pirates of the Caribbean, Zoolander 2, and The Brothers Grimsby? It sure seems like she's going back to the dramatic scene again, and her latest film will be an adaptation of Layover, the popular novel by Lisa Zeidner.

The film will mark the sophomore feature from Toni Kalem, whose debut came way back in 1999 with A Slipping Down Life. Layover stars Cruz as Claire Newbold, successful traveling saleswoman who decides to run away from her life. She begins to develop elaborate schemes for sneaking into hotel rooms and swimming in their pools.

Expect this one to hit the market at Cannes and then we'll start to hear word about when production could roll. It's good to see Cruz back taking on meatier roles again. She's currently shooting The Queen of Spain and later this month she'll be seen in the illness drama, Ma Ma. [Deadline]
