First Look At Chris Evans In Marc Webb's 'Gifted', Set For 2017

It feels like forever since Marc Webb was the red-hot indie director who wowed everyone with (500) Days of Summer. He quickly made the jump, perhaps too quickly, to Sony's The Amazing Spider-Man franchise, which died a rapid death after only two films. Suddenly Webb wasn't so hot anymore, but he's looking to bounce back with a passion project, Gifted, which now has a release date and first official image.

Fox Searchlight has set Gifted for April 17th 2017, and to go along with the announcement they've debuted the first official image of star Chris Evans and co-star McKenna Grace. Also starring Jenny Slate, Octavia Spencer, and Lindsay Duncan, the film centers on a man struggling to raise his deceased sister's brilliant young daughter. Here's the official synopsis:

Frank Adler (Evans) is a single man trying to raise a child prodigy – his spirited young niece Mary (McKenna Grace) – in a costal town in Florida. Frank’s plans for a normal school life for Mary are foiled when the seven-year-old’s mathematical abilities come to the attention of Frank’s formidable mother Evelyn (Lindsay Duncan) whose plans for her granddaughter threaten to separate Frank and Mary. Octavia Spencer plays Roberta, Frank and Mary’s landlady and best friend. Jenny Slate is Mary’s teacher, Bonnie, a young woman whose concern for her student develops into a connection with her uncle as well.

So this is still a long ways off but already it looks like a solid bounce back picture for Webb and the kind of small film Evans loves to fill his non-Captain America time with.
