Jennifer Lawrence And Adam McKay Team For Riches-To-Rags Biopic
So Jennifer Lawrence won't be in the Ocean's Eleven spinoff with the other talented ladies, but she's found something that could be just as good. Last year Lawrence starred in Joy, a true rags-to-riches story about a single mom who became a self-made millionaire. Well how about something that is basically the polar opposite? That's what Lawrence will do next, and she'll be teaming up with Adam McKay for it.
Lawrence and McKay are teaming for a biopic on Elizabeth Holmes, and if her name sounds familiar she's been in the news a lot lately. Holmes is the founder of Theranos, a leader in the field of blood-testing technology. Just last year she was listed by Forbes as the richest self-made woman in America, all at only 32 years of age. However when the company came under criminal investigation for inaccurate blood tests and the misleading of investors, Holmes' net worth was reduced to zero. Ouch.
Lawrence will obviously star as Holmes, while McKay will write and direct. He's coming off the success of his Wall Street drama, The Big Short, which earned five Oscar nominations, winning one for McKay's screenplay. It's another turn for the dramatic following a career mostly spent as a comedy director. Expect a fierce bidding war for this one, but don't expect to see it for a while. Lawrence will be filming Darren Aronofsky's mystery movie next, while McKay has some TV work and an adaptation of Mark Waid's psycho superhero comic, Irredeemable. [Variety]
