Ryan Condal, creator of the USA Network series Colony, has been brought on to write the screenplay. He's taking over from X-Men and Star Wars producer Simon Kinberg who was hired to write a draft last year. Condal will be charged with updating the 1967 novel penned by William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson, so it's not a redo of the 1976 movie starring Michael York. The story takes place in a future society in which people are executed upon reaching their 21st birthday. Those who flee are chased down by agents known as "Sandmen".
There still needs to be a director for this one, but at least this is a step in the right direction. [Deadline]
