The importance of Suicide Squad to Warner Bros.' DCU has only grown in recent weeks, as we've seen much of the franchise go through a painful restructuring process following 'Batman v Superman'. While Zack Snyder is still directing Justice League, he's now under much stricter scrutiny from studio reps, exec-producer Ben Affleck, and the new heads of DC Film. There appears to be a new mandate to make these films lighter (not unlike the 'Rebirth' event going on at DC Comics) and thus more crowd-pleasing.
Suicide Squad is the first film to fall under this new creative vision, with rumors it underwent reshoots to loosen things up a bit. With Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn receiving her own spinoff at some point, there's a lot riding on the film to a huge hit. The future of the DCU kind of relies on it.
To help keep the momentum going for its upcoming August 5th release, a handful of Suicide Squad character posters have been revealed focusing on Will Smith's Deadshot, Robbie's Harley Quinn, and of course Jared Leto as the Joker.
