Paul Feig somehow managed to avoid the "chick flick" label with Bridesmaids, The Heat, and Spy, all comedies that gave great roles to some of Hollywood's most talented women. And yet for some resason that label has stuck to his upcoming Ghosbusters film, and Feig isn't happy about it. He had a few things to say about it [via The Wrap] at last weekend's Produced By Conference...
“We still get called in the press as a ‘chick flick.’ We are always referred to as the all-female Ghostbusters. It’s just an uphill battle and I can’t believe we are having to deal with it.”
Melissa McCarthy went a bit harder in her comments to The Guardian, as she took square aim at the guys (because that's who it is, mostly) who think a Ghostbusters movie led by actresses will destroy some crucial memory from their childhood....
“All those comments – ‘You’re ruining my childhood!’ I mean, really. Four women doing any movie on earth will destroy your childhood? I have a visual of those people not having a Ben [Falcone, her husband], not having friends, so they’re just sitting there and spewing hate into this fake world of the Internet. I just hope they find a friend.”
Ghostbusters probably won't change anybody's mind until hitting theaters on July 15. For now, here's a new international trailer featuring McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon; all of those ladies who are making a bunch of girly-men angry right now.
