'Pacific Rim' Sequel Will Stomp Into Theaters In February 2018

It's kind of amazing to think we're getting a Pacific Rim sequel without Guillermo Del Toro directing it. That was such a personal project for him, one that touched upon many of his childhood passions, that to see it in another director's hands is a bit worrying. It took a while for Legendary and Universal to give it the thumbs up, but the sequel is indeed happening and now has an official release date.

Pacific Rim 2 will come stomping into theaters on February 23rd 2018. At the helm is Daredevil and Spartacus showrunner, Steven S. DeKnight, making this his feature debut. He may be working with an entirely new cast, as well, since the only confirmed actors are Star Wars: The Force Awakens' John Boyega and Femi Oguns (The Good Lie). Boyega will play the son of Idris Elba's character from the original film, which also starred Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, and Ron Perlman. It's unclear if any of them will return.

Other details remain scarce but with this announcement you can bet more information will follow. Are you excited about Pacific Rim 2? I'm trying to keep an open mind but without Del Toro it's hard to be excited.
