'Spider-Man: Homecoming' Adds Michael Barbieri In Mystery Role
Any time someone gets cast in a Marvel movie it's seen as a big deal, even when it probably isn't. It's sometimes hard to tell because the roles are so often kept a secret, and that is certainly the case here. Deadline reports that 14-year-old Michael Barbieri has joined the cast of Spider-Man: Homecoming in an unspecified role. Could it be a major part? Maybe, or maybe not.
Barbieri had his breakout role in Ira Sachs' film, Little Men, which debuted at Sundance earlier this year. He also was recently signed to join Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey in The Dark Tower, so he's definitely a young star on the rise. That suggests his Spidey role could be significant, and considering his age we can assume he'll have close ties to star Tom Holland as Peter Parker.
Directed by Jon Watts with Marisa Tomei, Robert Downey Jr., Michael Keaton, Zendaya Coleman, Laura Harrier, and Tony Revolori co-starring, Spider-Man: Homecoming opens July 7th 2017.
