The battle between the humans the Cyclons may finally be coming to the big screen. For years Universal has been trying to develop a feature film based on Glen Larson's 1978 sci-fi series, Battlestar Galactica. At one point Bryan Singer and writer Jack Paglen (Transcendence) were attached, but that version never came together. Now EW reports the project is back on with a new writer, Lisa Joy of HBO's upcoming Westworld remake, and a director may be close to signing on.
Francis Lawrence, who is coming off a series of successful adaptations of The Hunger Games, is "circling" the film. At this point he hasn't been made any offers and may not get involved, so we'll just have to wait and see. Battlestar Galactica takes place years in the future and follows the years-long conflict between humans and the robotic race known as the Cyclons. The last remaining human survivors live on a space-faring vessel known as the Galactica.
Sci-Fi Channel rebooted it in 2003 in a two-part miniseries, which was then spun into a hit award-winning series the following year. It lasted four seasons and spawned a pair of short-lived spinoffs. It's unclear if the film will have ties to the most recent series or if it will be a reimagining of the original.
