There are so many Alicia Vikander movies to pluck from, more than a dozen in the last two years or so, that naturally there are some good and some not-so-good.We may be seeing that played out in her future projects as well, because there's a promising update for her upcoming role as Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider reboot, and news that isn't so good about her period piece, Tulip Fever.
First up, Tomb Raider, the video game adaptation directed by Roar Uthaug (The Wave), has netted a March 16th 2018 release date.That's a pretty solid date for a film that is looking to move on past the successful turn by Angelina Jolie in two prior movies, and with the video games back to some degree of prominence this is as good a time as any to relaunch the franchise.
On the other hand, The Weinstein Company has knocked Tulip Fever from its spot this summer all the way to February 24th 2017, the cinematic slums. There it will showdown the the J.J. Abrams-produced God Particle, a film that many think will be an undercover smash similar to 10 Cloverfield Lane. This is likely evidence that Weinstein isn't thinking too highly of the Justin Chadwick-directed drama, which has Vikander starring alongside Christoph Waltz and Dane DeHaan in a 17th-century love triangle set in the tulip industry. Gee, why wouldn't audiences show up for that?? The film was shot way back in 2014 and has been shuffled around the schedule ever since before landing what looks to be a death slot.
There's plenty more Vikander to come as she'll be seen this summer opposite Matt Damon in Jason Bourne, and next she has Wim Wenders' Submergence. She'll also produce and star in Euphoria, which sees her paired up with Eva Green.
