It's taken more than 20 years but Terry Gilliam's The Man Who Killed Don Quixote is rolling along now with new headliner Adam Driver. Now the cast gets another jolt of star power with the additions of Willem Dafoe and Stellan Skarsgard, who join co-stars Michael Palin and Olga Kurylenko. The film centers on a cynical, arrogant publicist who shot a student film on 'Don Quixote', and returns to the place of filming only to discover that his movie had a devastating effect on the town. Gilliam plans to shoot this fall (we shall see) with Netflix likely releasing it next year.
Author Rebecca Skloot has to be beaming right now, having learned that Rose Byrne will portray her in the HBO adaptation of book, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. The film already stars Oprah Winfrey as Deborah, the daughter of Henrietta Lacks, an African-American woman whose immortal cancerous cells were harvested without her consent in 1951 and used for decades of groundbreaking medical research. Deborah and Skloot worked together to explore Henrietta's life and legacy. George C. Wolfe (Lackawanna Blues) wrote the script and will direct. [THR]
