'Dope' Breakout Kiersey Clemons Frontrunner For Iris West Role In 'The Flash', Could Appear In 'Justice League'

Since her breakthrough performance in last year's hit comedy, Dope, Kiersey Clemons has been the most visible of all the film's stars. She was recently seen in Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, has a recurring role on Transparent, and had guest appearances on New Girl and Extant before signing on to the upcoming Flatliners remake. In short, she's taking advantage of the moment, and that includes reteaming with Famuyiwa for the first blockbuster superhero movie of their careers.

Clemons is reteaming with Famuyiwa on The Flash, taking the female lead role. That immediately begs the question of who she could be playing, but since Ezra Miller is set to be Barry Allen we can probably assume she'll be his frequent love interest, journalist Iris West. In the TV series that role has been filled by Candice Patton, which caused a bit of controversy since the character is traditionally Caucasian. Something tells me there will be similar chatter about this move, as well, if it goes down.

All is still up in the air, though, and apparently two more names are in the mix for the West role. Those would be singer Rita Ora and Lucy Boynton, the latter most recently seen in Sing Street. Justin Kroll of Variety adds that we could see West pretty soon as she may appear in next year's Justice League film directed by Zack Snyder. If that's the case then expect casting to get firmed up real soon.

The Flash begins shooting later this year for a 2018 release. [Variety]
