Zendaya Joins 'The Greatest Showman On Earth', Charlie Plummer To Headline 'Lean On Pete'
Disney startlet Zendaya is suddenly everywhere, and for her first major jumps to the big screen she's not starting small. She already has a supporting role in Spider-Man: Homecoming, and now she's joining another Marvel vet, Hugh Jackman, in musical The Greatest Showman on Earth. She'll be starring alongside Jackman, Michelle Williams, and Zac Efron in the Hollywood's first original studio musical in two decades, which is a biopic on legendary showman P.T. Barnum, creator of the famous Barnum and Bailey Circus. Zendaya will play a trapeze artist and a love interest for Efron. The long-developing project will be directed by Michael Gracey from a script most recently drafted by Toy Story 3's Michael Arndt. [THR]
Andrew Haigh, creator of HBO's Looking and director of the acclaimed drama 45 Years, isn't wasting time casting his follow-up. Only days ago we learned Steve Buscemi had a role in Lean on Pete, and now he's added Charlie Plummer, fresh off his praised performance in King Jack. Based on the Willy Valutin novel, the story centers on teenager Charley Thompson (Plummer) who embarks on a journey to find his long-lost aunt, accompanied by a stolen racehorse. Filming begins this summer, but you can check out Haigh's work sooner when Looking: The Movie hits HBO on July 23rd.
