Before he plays Marvel's Sorcerer Supreme in Doctor Strange, Benedict Cumberbatch has signed on to be another Rogue Male. The fan-favorite actor and former Khaaaaannnnnnn!!!! will produce and star in an adaptation of Geoffrey Household's novel, set in the 1930s, about a professional hunter hired to assassinate a dictator, who is pretty much Adolf Hitler. The book has been adapted a couple of times already, once in 1941 and again in 1977 as a TV movie starring Peter O'Toole, but this isn't material that Hollywood has used up to death. Michael Lesslie (Justin Kurzel's Macbeth and Assassin's Creed) will write the script but so far no director is attached. [Variety]
Fear not, Death Note fans, Adam Wingard's live-action adaptation of the hit manga/anime will indeed feature the demon, Ryuk, and he'll be voiced by Willem Dafoe who kind of shares a resemblance. Just sayin'. Mashable dropped the news of Dafoe's joining Nat Wolff, Margaret Qualley, Keith Stanfield, and Shea Whigham in the film about a brilliant high schooler who comes in possession of the death note, a supernatural notebook that kills anybody whose name is written in it. Obsessed with fighting crime, he begins murdering criminals in an attempt to save the world. Little does he know the book belongs to Ryuk, who has a reason for leaving it in his possession. Death Note will hit Netflix some time in 2017.
