Although she continues to be a popular dark horse pick to direct Captain Marvel, rising star filmmaker Emily Carmichael has found another comic book to bring to the big screen. The Wrap reports the exciting news that Carmichael will direct a live-action adaptation of award-winning all-ages comic, Lumberjanes.
Created by Shannon Watters, Grace Ellis, Noelle Stevenson, and Brooke Allen with BOOM! Studios as its publisher, the comic debuted as an 8-issue miniseries centers on a group of girls named Mal, Ripley, Molly, April, and Jo, who have wild supernatural adventures while spending summer at Miss Quinzella Thiskwin Penniquiqul Thistle Crumpet's Camp for Hardcore Lady Types. The series proved to be so popular that it was quickly made an ongoing, winning a pair of Eisner Awards last year including one for Best Publication for Teens. Clearly, 20th Century Fox will want to gear this towards young girls, a market that could always stand to be catered to more often. Will Widger (The Munchkin) will write the screenplay.
This is just the latest high-profile project Carmichael has landed in recent weeks. She's also attached to direct Powerless for producers Steven Spielberg, Colin Trevorrow, and Simon Kinberg. No pressure.
