There probably weren't a ton of people begging for a remake of Steve McQueen/Dustin Hoffman prison break classic, Papillon, but now there's reason to be excited. Joining the previously-cast Charlie Hunnam in the film is Mr. Robot star, Rami Malek, getting what should be his biggest feature role yet.
The film is directed by Danish helmer Michael Noer but it's notably written by Prisoners screenwriter Aaron Guzikowski. The based-in-fact story centers on a man who enlists the help of a quirky counterfeiter to break out of a South American prison after being unjustly convicted of murder. While it would have been cool to see Malek in the McQueen role, he'll instead by playing the counterfeiter part previously played by Hoffman. Sure they can't do a role reversal?
Malek has had plenty of screen roles prior to his breakout on Mr. Robot, such as the Night at the Museum trilogy, The Master, Need for Speed, and Short Term 12, but this is a definite step up in terms of his positioning as a co-lead, and I'm curious to see how it plays out.
