Cinematographers? Who cares about cinematographers? Well, you should, if you care about how that movie you just plunked down a bunch of money for looks. And now today we have news on two of the best DPs in the business and the exciting new projects they have coming up.
First, Ain't Them Bodies Saints and Selma cinematographer Bradford Young will lens the Han Solo spinoff film. Phil Lord and Chris Miller are directing the story about everyone's favorite rogue, played by Alden Ehrenreich. Not much is known about the story except that we should see Chewbacca (OF COURSE!!) and possibly Lando Calrissian. I'm already drooling over the thought of Star Wars shot by Young. Wow. The film is slated to open on May 25th 2018. Young's work will be seen next in Denis Villeneuve's sci-fi drama, Arrival, so he's more than ready for the genre.
Meanwhile, the guy who won't sit still long enough for Young to win an Oscar is re-teaming with the director who helped earn his first. Emmanuel Lubezki, winner of three straight Academy Awards for Best Cinematography, is rejoining his Gravity and Children of Men director Alfonso Cuaron for his next movie. It's not a big project, centering on a Mexican middle-class family in the 1970s, but we know it'll be a gorgeous one. Filming should begin some time this fall. [TheFilmStage]
