'Pacific Rim 2' Casts Chinese Actress Jing Tian

Guillermo Del Toro's Pacific Rim wasn't exactly a huge hit here in America, grossing just a shade over $100M domestically. But internationally it was huge, and the biggest chunk of its box office came from China. That along with Legendary's Chinese co-production deal means we can likely expect to see a greater Asian influence on the sequel, and it begins with the addition of Jing Tian to the cast.

Tian, who has upcoming roles in Kong: Skull Island and The Great Wall, both Legendary features by the way, joins John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, and Cailee Spaeny in Pacific Rim 2. It's unclear what role the Chinese actress will be taking but then details on the film have been kept a secret. What we do know is that it takes place years later and follows the son of Idris Elba's character from the first movie.

Pacific Rim 2 opens February 23rd 2018 directed by Stephen S. DeKnight.
