Chris Pratt May Have Big 'Infinity War' Role, Plus 'Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2' Rumors
As Marvel rounds the corner towards Avengers: Infinity War, we're seeing the scope of the MCU expand to include the supernatural and the cosmic. The Guardians of the Galaxy took us further off-world than any film had done up to that point, and Doctor Strange will explore the mystical realm defended by the Sorcerer Supreme. These two worlds will somehow converge when 'Infinity War' arrives, but today's rumors focus on what will be going on beyond the stars.
Both of these stories are sourced from Schmoes Know, so judge them accordingly. The first is in regards to Chris Pratt's role as Star-Lord in 'Infinity War', which the site says will be "sizable". What does that mean exactly? We already know thanks to Vin Diesel that the Guardians of the Galaxy will be part of the fight against Thanos, but it could be Star-Lord who is the inciting factor that brings them into contact with the Avengers. Frankly, I find this rumor pretty weak; par for the course for the Schmoes. It could mean practically anything when in truth any appearance by Star-Lord in the film is going to be a big deal. Plus, considering each member of the team has some personal beef with Thanos it stands to reason they'd play a major role in defeating him.
Next up, the site says Sharon Stone and Sylvester Stallone will be playing Elders of the Universe in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The Elders are all-powerful beings who are also the last of their kind, such as Benicio Del Tor's The Collector who was seen in the first movie and will be in the sequel. He may be joined by Ayesha (Elizabeth Debicki) in a change from her comic book origin, and two unnamed Elders. The Elders may be the ones responsible for urging the team to seek out Star-Lord's father, Ego the Living Planet, played by Kurt Russell. Jeff Goldblum has been cast as the Elder known as Grandmaster but only for Thor: Ragnarok.
So who knows if any of this is true, but consider that Sharon Stone hasn't been confirmed for anything yet. And also we haven't heard anything about Ayesha, who is basically the female version of Adam Warlock, becoming a member of the Elders. It doesn't make a lot of sense for her to be.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 opens May 5th, 2017. Avengers: Infinity War on May 4th 2018.
