'Deadpool' Director Tim Miller Races To 'Sonic The Hedgehog' Movie
So we won't be getting Tim Miller on anymore Deadpool movies, but his next film will follow another erratic hero. THR reports Miller will exec-produce and develop a film based on SEGA's speedy blue mascot, Sonic the Hedgehog.
The project has been set up at Sony Pictures, which has plans of launching an entire franchise. Miller's Blur Studio collaborator Jeff Fowler (of the Oscar-nominated short Gopher Broke) will make his directorial debut on the film, combining live-action with CGI elements. Neal Moritz of the Fast & Furious franchise is on board to produce, as well, with Patrick Casey and Josh Miller writing the script in hopes of capturing the character's irreverent attitude.
Sonic the Hedgehog was last seen among the many video game characters in Wreck-It Ralph, but he's been a media powerhouse since debuting for SEGA in 1991. It's fair to say that other than Mario and Pac-Man he may be the most recognizable character in console history. There have been multiple Sonic cartoons, games, comics, and more over the years, and it has long been time for the speedster to get his own movie. Expect to see other characters from the game such as Knuckles, Tails, and the villainous Dr. Eggman.
