The $140M success of Fede Alvarez's low-budget thriller Don't Breathe is one of the year's best stories. The home invasion thriller, Alvarez's follow-up to his Evil Dead remake, has made him one of Hollywood's most sought-after directors, and it's opened the door to a much bigger project. THR reports Alvarez will direct an adaptation of Ed Brubaker's noir superhero comic, "Incognito".
Penned by Brubaker, a crime novelist and comic book writer with art by Sean Phillips, Incognito was published by Icon Comics and follows supervillain Zach Overkill. He's in Witness Protection after testifying against a powerful hero, but soon grows tired of living a dull, normal life taking drugs to suppress his superpowers. Soon he discovers a way to get his powers back, and must decide whether to go back to that old, destructive life.
Alvarez will be working off a script by Daniel Casey (10 Cloverfield Lane) and this sounds like a great way for him to stretch beyond the horror realm. The comic is great and cinematic on the page, so he should have a lot to work with bringing it to the screen.
