Ryan Reynolds And Jake Gyllenhaal Find 'Life' On Mars In Creepy First Trailer

We're seeing science fiction explored in multiple ways over the next few months. If you want romance there's Passengers with Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt; for global drama you've got Denis Villenueve's Arrival; and for an action-packed epic there's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. But only one film can say it boasts a reunion between Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick with their R-rated star, Ryan Reynolds, and that film is Life.

The first trailer for the anticipated film has arrived and it finds Reynolds heading to Mars alongside Jake Gyllenhaal, Rebecca Ferguson, and Olga Dihovichnaya, Ariyon Bakare, Hiroyuki Sanada. They play members of an international space station who discover the first signs of intelligent life on Mars, only to face unintended consequences when the organism proves smarter than they expected.

It'll be interesting to see if Reese and Wernick can inject some of their trademark humor into the story, but based on this footage I'm seeing callbacks to Alien and Danny Boyle's Sunshine, the latter having featured Sanada in a lead role.

Directed by Daniel Espinosa, Life opens May 26th 2017.
