The movie will be titled The Passion of the Christ-Resurrection. The news was revealed last night to Stephen Colbert [via THR], and Gibson took time to explain that the story will be about more than just Christ's return...
"It’s more than a single event, it’s an amazing event. And to underpin that with the things around it is really the story, to enlighten what that means. It’s not just about the event; it’s not just some chronological telling of just that event. That could be boring, and you think, ‘Oh, we read that.' ... But what are the other things around it that happened?"
What else happened? There were villains from "another realm" apparently, but he fails to say whether these heels will actually appear. That would be an odd shift from the original if they did. He confusingly adds...
"Sure, you’re going all over the place. What happened in three days? ... I’m not sure, but it’s worth thinking about. Get your imagination going."
Pretty sure Mel will show us exactly what happened in excruciating detail. He says the sequel is still about three years off which could give him time to helm something else in-between. His next screen roles are opposite Sean Penn in The Professor and the Madman, and the action flick Every Other Weekend.
Meanwhile, check out Gibson as he attempts an image makeover in this "Big Questions" segment with Colbert. It's pretty funny.
