Of all the ways to treat your loved one on Valentine's Day, taking her to Fifty Shades Darker seems like the worst possible idea. If she loves E.L. James' series of erotic "lonely wife" books then she'll probably compare you, unfavorably, to Jamie Dornan as the stalkerish Christian Grey. If she digs that guy's whole deal then maybe she's got some issues to work out. On the other hand, if she doesn't care for the books then she may think there's something a bit off about you. Nobody wins.
But that won't stop the sequel from arriving on the romantic holiday, and a new trailer is here for those who already have it marked on their calendars. Jamie Dornan is back as Grey, who apparently really wants to "try again" with Anastasia Steele, played by Dakota Johnson. Looks like she's ready to move on, though, which could take things into some dangerous territory because Christian isn't so good with rejection. Here's the synopsis:
When a wounded Christian Grey tries to entice a cautious Ana Steele back into his life, she demands a new arrangement before she will give him another chance. As the two begin to build trust and find stability, shadowy figures from Christian’s past start to circle the couple, determined to destroy their hopes for a future together.
I see the cornball factor hasn't left the script despite James' husband taking over as screenwriter. I nearly blew milk out of my nose when Ana says "I'll have dinner with you because I'm...(pause for effect)...hungry." Yeah okay, at least it'll still be funny. When this is all over we'll look back and talk about how Johnson and Dornan deserved so much better.
