Having now seen Rogue One: A Star Wars Story for a second time (Apparently a lot of people did), one aspect that I underappreciated the first time was Forest Whitaker as rebel extremist, Saw Gerrera. It was a small but pivotal role, but it holds greater significance to those of us who remember the character from the The Clone Wars animated series. Having an expanded Star Wars universe has opened up the door for stuff like this to be a regular occurrence, and in the case of Saw Gerrera he's about to be a cartoon once again.
A new poster spotted at a Toys R Us hypes Gerrera for the second half of Star Wars Rebels' third season. And judging by the image, which uses Gerrera's "Save the Rebellion, Save the Dream" speech as a tagline, he is going to be very prominent figure.
Looks like Saw Gerrera is coming to #StarWarsRebels soon! @CoffeeWthKenobi #RogueOne pic.twitter.com/MMYcwr2TN5— Rebels Reactions (@RebelsReactions) December 17, 2016
'Rebels' and 'Rogue One' are only separated by a few years, and if you look closely there are a few subtle references to the series. I would say look closely for a certain C1-10p droid later in the film. So if we're going to see Saw it's likely going to a critical period in his personal fight against the Empire. Although we've been told there will be no 'Rogue One' sequels, this is a pretty good way to keep some of its characters around.
Season three of Star Wars Rebels returns to Disney XD on January 7th.
