In the film Six Days, Seven Nights (I must confess, it's a guilty pleasure), two wayward strangers played by Harrison Ford and Anne Heche fall in love while stranded after their plane crashes on a deserted tropical island. Idris Elba and Kate Winslet wish they had it so lucky in The Mountain Between Us, a romance that finds them generating enough heat to survive the frigid cold Mother Nature has to throw at them.
After getting our first look at Hany Abu-Assad's film yesterday, the first trailer has now arrived. Filmed in the wintry Canadien wilderness, the film stars Elba as a surgeon and Winslet as a photojournalist on the way to her wedding when their charter plane crashes, leaving them exposed to the harsh elements. Hopefully this doesn't turn into an Alive-type situation, because that would be unfortunate. And gross.
Once set to star Charlie Hunnam and Margot Robbie, the film got a serious dose of maturity and screen presence with Elba and Winslet. I'm not sure there's another couple I'd want to see relying on one another more than them, so hopefully this lives up to its potential.
The Mountain Between Us opens October 20th.
