James Wan On Board First Of Six New 'Resident Evil' Films

Earlier today we learned of plans to reboot the popular (at least internationally) and long-running Resident Evil franchise, after six movies starring Milla Jojovich. What we didn't have were details, but now that's changing as Constantin Film has hired Aquaman director James Wan to produce the first movie.

The plan is for this new reboot to be the first of six films with an entirely new cast and creative makeup. Adding Wan to the mix is a smart move for a bunch of reasons, but let's start with the fact that he knows about long-running franchises and modern horror movies, having launched the Saw franchise along with The Conjuring (plus its multiple spinoffs) and Insidious. Not only that, but he's successfully branched out into other genres by directing Aquaman and the $1.5B-earning Furious 7.

Writing the first Resident Evil movie will be Greg Russo, best known for the upcoming Mortal Kombat movie which Wan is also producing. So things are moving rapidly on this and there may be news on a director and start date very soon. [Deadline]
