Melissa McCarthy Will Investigate Puppet Noir 'The Happytime Murders'
The Muppets dealt with crime all of the time, hello The Great Muppet Caper! But they've never had to deal with anything quite like the puppet noir, The Happytime Murders. Directed by Brian Henson, the son of The Muppets creator Jim Henson, it's a detective story about a human and a puppet who attempt to solve the murders of the cast of The Happytime Gang, a popular puppet show. And now we know the human half of that crime-solving duo will be Melissa McCarthy.
McCarthy has joined the film, basically replacing Jamie Foxx who was in talks for it a year ago. That deal never panned out, and apparently the human's gender isn't much of a concern. Adding McCarthy should be a pretty big boost to a film that promises to be a tough sell. Here's what McCarthy said in a press release about why she decided to sign on...
“When a really good script combines puppet strippers, Los Angeles’ underbelly and comedy, it’s like my fever dream has finally come true."
No word on when this will kick off, but here's hoping she can keep up the Sean Spicer gig on SNL.
