Universal Still Wants Dwayne Johnson & Angelina Jolie For Dark Universe Franchise

In just a few days Universal will officially kick off their Dark Universe franchise of connected monster movies with The Mummy, led by Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella, and Russell Crowe. And they aren't screwing around this time (remember, it was supposed to launch with Dracula Untold), adding Javier Bardem as Frankenstein and Johnny Depp for an Invisible Man movie. But there are other projects that have been percolating for a while now, and THR has just provided a very minor update on two of them.

Dwayne Johnson is reportedly still being sought for a role as The Wolfman, which would mark a return to the monster-verse for him after The Mummy Returns and 2002's The Scorpion King. Johnson has been eyed for this role for a year now and there doesn't seem to be any real movement, so I'm not sure why this is being touted as new information.

Meanwhile, Angelina Jolie is still in the mix for Bill Condon's Bride of Frankenstein, which you might recall is the only reason Universal backed her passion project, By the Sea. Neither she or Johnson is officially in talks at this stage, so again this seems like just a reminder that "Hey, remember Universal wanted these two A-listers? Well they still do." 'Bride' at least has a release date set for February 2019.

We'll see what happens. If The Mummy doesn't do squat at the box office maybe none of this moves forward.
