X-23 Probably Won't Be Joining Any X-Men Team Movies

Just in time for Hugh Jackman's final turn as Wolverine in Logan, the film also provided 20th Century Fox with a breakout star for the future. Dafne Keen's performance as X-23 won her scores of fans who are hoping the Wolvie clone will return somehow. Just how is anybody's guess, though. Since Logan took place in the future that would seem to exclude her from the current X-Men movies, which really leaves only one option, and producer Hutch Parker sees it, too.

Speaking with IGN, Parker says any plans for X-23 involve a solo movie rather than a teamup film...

"Yeah, I mean, look -- I don't know definitively, but in terms of the stuff we've been talking about, it's not sort of slipping her into the background of another movie. It's looking at that character, which is a great character and has a pretty interesting run within the comics, to find a story that we think she could carry or certainly be kind of majorly significant within.

That's the only kind of thing that Jim (Mangold) as a storyteller, a filmmaker… that's the way his sort of process works. And the way his mind works in terms of what he would aspire to. Which isn’t to say that the studio couldn’t have a conversation about something else, but the one that we've been kind of discussing loosely and kicking around is more likely to be its own film."

A solo X-23 movie set in the future? There's certainly a lot of potential in it, and we've seen a band of mutants there already who could form a future X-Men squad if that's the direction Fox goes in. Or, we may see them eventually try to connect the various timelines and bring X-23 into the present. Plenty of opportunities here but I know I can't wait to see where Keen ends up next.
