The Valiant Comics superhero universe has yet to make its mark on the big screen, although that is about to change. A couple of years ago they struck a huge deal that would bring their characters to the big and small screen, along with other forms of media, and we've seen news on films featuring Bloodshot, Harbinger, X-O Manowar, and Archer & Armstrong. And now today comes word on another project they have brewing, an adaptation of the Shadowman comic.
Reginald Hudlin, best known for directing House Party, Boomerang, and the greatest boxing movie ever The Great White Hype (He also wrote Marvel's Black Panther comic for a stretch), will direct Shadowman from a script by J. Michael Straczynski. Adam Simon will take a pass at the screenplay, however, which centers on an African-American musician from New Orleans who gains the otherworldly power of Shadowman to protect the city from evil. However those powers come with a cost.
No word on when this could roll, and that seems to be the case with all of these Valiant projects. They keep adding talents but nothing ever gets closer to shooting. We'll see if that changes with Shadowman or not. Next up for Hudlin is this year's Chadwick Boseman-led Thurgood Marshall biopic, Marshall, the first film he's directed since 2002's Serving Sara.
