Cate Blanchett Enters 'The House With A Clock In Its Walls' Alongside Jack Black
Later this year we'll see a different side to Cate Blanchett when she plays the villainess Hela in Marvel's Thor: Ragnarok. She doesn't make a ton of family-friendly movies but Marvel is about as family friendly as it gets, and Blanchett seems ready to stay with the all-ages stuff for a while. Variety reports she'll join Jack Black for The House with a Clock In its Walls, based on the book by John Bellairs and Edward Gorey.
Eli Roth will direct, with the horror maven making another strong move towards the mainstream along with his Death Wish remake. The film features a script by Eric Kripke, and follows 10-year-old orphan Lewis Barnavelt, who discovers a world of magic, secret passageways, and danger in the old house belonging to his uncle, who he discovers is actually a powerful wizard. This is just the first book in Gorey's series so if it's a hit you can bet this will become a franchise.
Blanchett's keeping busy with Richard Linklater's Where'd You Go Bernadette; plus she has a role in Ocean's Eight which opens next summer.
