Patty Jenkins And James Cameron Beef Over His 'Wonder Woman' Criticism

James Cameron is responsible for some of the best and strongest female characters to ever grace the screen: Sigourney Weaver in Aliens and Linda Hamilton in Terminator just to name a couple. But maybe he should spend more time watching his old movies than commenting on new ones, because he had some things to say about Wonder Woman that have got him in some hot water. Basically, he ain't feelin' the love...oh, and he thinks his female characters were superior. Pretty sure he's missing the point, but I'll let him speak for himself. He tells The Guardian...

“All of the self-congratulatory back-patting Hollywood’s been doing over ‘Wonder Woman’ has been so misguided. She’s an objectified icon, and it’s just male Hollywood doing the same old thing! I’m not saying I didn’t like the movie but, to me, it’s a step backwards. Sarah Connor was not a beauty icon. She was strong, she was troubled, she was a terrible mother, and she earned the respect of the audience through pure grit. And to me, [the benefit of characters like Sarah] is so obvious. I mean, half the audience is female!”

I mean, the rebuttal is a layup, right? Women can be both gorgeous and strong, and I would argue Cameron's leads have been both. Of course, Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins had something to say in response, and she doesn't need our help in defending her movie...

Nailed it. I don't think there's any more that needs to be said, except I hope this wasn't a work to hype the IMAX re-release of Wonder Woman and the 3D edition of Terminator 2. They wouldn't do that, would they?
