Tom Cruise Injury Delays 'Mission: Impossible 6' Up To 3 Months
It was bound to happen, wasn't it? The way Tom Cruise throws himself into every dangerous stunt, it was only a matter of time before he broke something. Jackie Chan, God bless him, broke a rack of bones over the course of his career. Now it's Cruise's turn, and the superstar actor who likes to hang off of airplanes and skyscrapers has been hurt seriously enough to set Mission: Impossible 6 back significantly.
Deadline reports production on the film has been shut down for as long as three months due to an injury Cruise suffered during an attempted stunt. Here is Paramount's official statement on the matter, which includes the nature of Cruise's injury:
“During production on the latest Mission: Impossible film, Tom Cruise broke his ankle while performing a stunt. Production will go on hiatus while Tom makes a full recovery, and the film remains on schedule to open July 27, 2018. Tom wants to thank you all for your concern and support and can’t wait to share the film with everyone next summer.”
As the statement suggests, they expect for director Christopher McQuarrie to still hit the summer release date, which seems like a tall order.
You can see how the injury occurred by checking out the highly annoying vid from TMZ below. But just to be clear here; Cruise didn't mess up the stunt. He was actually supposed to slam against the side of the building, according to McQuarrie. He just hit his foot the wrong way while doing it.
