If you saw the most recent Justice League trailer from Comic-Con, you must've noticed that it was framed totally around Wonder Woman. Gee, I wonder why? The Gal Gadot-led film just surpassed the $400M mark domestically with $800M worldwide just around the corner. Not only that, it's the first DCEU film to be loved by audiences and critics alike. So of course they are going to make her the centerpiece character going forward. Sorry Batman and Superman, but it's ladies first, and it looks like we know another place she'll be showing up.
According to Forbes, Wonder Woman is set to appear in Flashpoint, the Flash solo movie announced at Comic-Con. They also have additional info on the film, such as a 2020 release date and an approach that sounds like Justice League 2.5...
Gadot is also expected to reprise her role as Wonder Woman in the upcoming production of Flashpoint, which will be Flash’s solo movie but is also more of another superhero team-up featuring several additional DC superheroes. Flashpoint is currently scheduled to release in 2020. So we’ll see Wonder Woman twice this year, again in 2019, and in 2020. That’s an average of one appearance every year, and it means Wonder Woman could potentially appear in as many different films as Batman will over the course of the next few years in the DCEU.”
So there's a lot to unpack. First up, Warner Bros. did set a couple of release dates in 2020, one on February 14th and another on June 5th, so this rings true. It also sounds like this will have very little to do with the Flashpoint storyline seen in The Flash TV series, which is probably for the best. The only reason Flashpoint works as a story is because of years of Barry Allen screwing around with the timeline. We don't have that in the DCEU yet. I'm guessing the title is just meant to be a clever play on words, and I wouldn't be shocked if it changed by the time the movie is released.
We'll see if any of this pans out. Flashpoint currently has no director after losing both Seth Grahame-Smith and Rick Famuyiwa. While Geoff Johns, and possibly Joss Whedon, are likely to be involved nothing can be taken as gospel until there's someone set behind the camera.
