So what's the deal? Dark Fate works as a direct sequel to Judgment Day, so it stands to reason that John would be a major part of it. The T-800 is still around, looking older somehow. But where's John? According to James Cameron, John's story is far from finished and will be picked up on...
“I think the best way to think about Terminator: Dark Fate is to think about it as a direct sequel to Terminator 2, the third film in a series if you will. We’ll be continuing John’s story, with Sarah’s story, and the T-800 returns — a different T-800 with a very different role to play than what we’ve seen before.”
This still seems pretty weird to not feature John in some way, especially since Dark Fate's storyline mirrors his predicament from the prior movie. Sarah is now teaming up with Grace, a female cyborg played by Mackenzie Davis, who has been sent back from the future to protect a woman named Dani, played by Natalia Reyes. What makes her so special that Skynet would turn their attention away from John and onto Dani?
We'll finally get some answers when Terminator: Dark Fate opens November 1st. [Joblo]
