'The Banana Splits Movie' Trailer: Only Slightly Creepier Than The Classic Children's Show

The Banana Splits may have only aired from 1968-1970 but the creepiness factor lasts a lifetime. The weird Hanna-Barbera variety show featuring psychedelic costumed animals was always going to be traumatic for some, especially those easily freaked out by the characters at Chuck E. Cheese, but Syfy's new Banana Splits Movie goes all the way and turns them into the savage killers we always knew them to be.

The Banana Splits Movie is basically Five Nights at Freddy's, only featuring the gonzo characters Fleagle the Beagle, Drooper the Lion, Snorky the Elephant, and Bingo the Gorilla. They were creations of Sid and Marty Krofft, the duo behind the equally-alarming H.R. Pufnstuf. Those two should've been locked away and never allowed to make children's entertainment ever again. The new movie follows a family who take their son to see the Banana Splits, only to have the costumed freaks come to life and start killing folks.

Sadly, The Banana Splits Movie arrives long before we'll get an actual Five Nights at Freddy's, which has been in development Hell for years and recently saw its latest screenplay tossed. You can check this out on Syfy later this year.
