Sylvester Stallone's Superhero Film 'Samaritan' Scores 'Overlord' Director Julius Avery
Okay, so Rambo: Last Blood is pretty bad, and Sylvester Stallone has starred in some crappy movies lately. But he's also shown with the Creed films that he's still got it when inspired by the right material and the right director. That gives me hope for his dark superhero movie, Samaritan, which has now landed Overlord director Julius Avery.
Announced earlier this year, Samaritan centers on "a boy learning that a missing superhero, who vanished 20 years earlier after a battle, may still be alive." The script is by Escape Room writer Bragi F. Schut, and it will be interesting to see what Avery does with it. Avery whiffed on his debut film, Son of a Gun, but I thought hit all the right genre notes with his Nazi horror Overlord. He's a filmmaker with a lot of potential, and considering this is among the first major projects for Stallone's new company Balboa Productions, clearly there's faith in his abilities.
Filming on Samaritan is pegged for early next year.
